Take Out/Fast Food and Wine Pairings
We are class acts at Missbehave magazine. That's why we decided to figure out how to pair a fine wine with our current nutritious diet of Pad Thai and cheese fries. Here are the dream-team pairings our office sommelier came up with. So order in and remember: pinkies up!
Chow Mein and Shiraz: I would ask grease-filled and delicious MSG laced cheap Chinese food to be my boyfriend if stir-fry was capable of human love. That's why I was super psyched when I discovered how yummy the Shiraz was with Chow Mein. I seriously started to rub my belly and freak out at the peppery spice mingling with those slippery noodles.
Cheese Fries and Shiraz-Cabernet: Mmmmm, cheese fries and Shiraz-Cabernet bring a new meaning to the term "hot mess." Like gooey, sticky goodness and spicy notes playing around my tongue. Actually on second thought, that might not be a new definition per se....
Sliders and Riesling: Sometimes at 3 a.m. on Saturday nights when all my "friends" have wussed out and crawled into bed next to their boyfriends, I go home with my one true love-sliders. I order five mini-burgers and bike home, clutching them close to my heart. Once home, I open a bottle of the Riesling and chow down in bed while watching trashy teen dramas on my computer.
Sausage Pizza and Merlot: Lately I have been dreaming of a certain clan of ninja-practicing turtles. I think it might be because their New York apartment was a lot like mine--tiny, dank hole with water leaking constantly and occasional vermin scurrying by. That's why I decided that if I was going to live like the sewer-bound, I might as well be a classy one. Now when I grab a slice, I make sure to accompany it with a glass of Merlot. The wine's oak-like quality even makes my pizza taste like it was made on a wood-burning stove!
Shrimp Pad Thai and Chardonnay: White wine always seems like the kind of thing that ladies who love yacht-rock enjoy. But now I know, it's also something that impoverished, socially awkward girls enjoy while daydreaming of beaver-skin boots. Black Swan's Chardonnay compliments the tiny shrimp in Pad Thai so well that I decided it might be cheaper to pile on the pounds this winter instead of coughing up the cash for fur!
